I’ve been trying to get that emojis joke into a script for absolutely ages, I’m so glad.

Imagine Jon being a stressed-out single dad, with those two dorks being his kids! X-D

To be fair to Seth, the apparent circumstances would be about the same if his worries were valid. But really, he could've done a better job of maintaining his parental bonds if he's worried about how well they're working. Maybe I'm expecting too much of a twenty-something?

Low class Anna, to make the dumb sort of joke that she knows will annoy Jon while she's asking him for something. On the other hand, if she actually tried being nice people would suspect her of being a Russian infiltrator spy, or a doppelganger, or something. So maybe she has to?

Seth realising that maybe not visiting or calling in five years has left a bit of tension

I personally find it way funnier to imagine that Anna genuinely forgot the word "emotions"

You're right, that is funnier. And she's your character. so you likely know her better than I ever will. That all said, unless she's making a special effort not to be mean she usually is. Sometimes she's unintentionally mean (with a bit of a tendency to be obliviously mean), but how often is Anne NOT the meanest person in the room?

Anna patting Seth on the head appears to be working. :D

Maybe she's not so bad at this after all!

It's possible that Anna's discomfort in trying to comfort him amuses Seth enough to break his mood. Stranger things have happened. ;)

The word "Schadenfreude" is the most unnecessary word in English, which is why it was invented by Germans: Why wouldn't someone else's discomfort be funny?

I suppose it would depend upon what that discomfort is, but I get your meaning. :)
