Well that didn’t last long.

I drew this chapter a while ago and wrote it even longer ago, and reading it again now it does kind of bother me that Jon's friends are apparently so risk-averse they don't even really stand up for him, but I guess that's in character? I dunno, if it bugs you, it bugs me too.

I forgot the pattern on Paul's shirt for an entire panel and somehow didn't notice?? Anyway fixed now lol, I have 11 years of experience making a webcomic.

Why is he so angry?

Who, Jon? He's a broke student that works hard, gets very little respect, and hasn't adjusted to how nights out drinking with his friends is often more of a chore than a treat when he's trying to keep sober himself.

The arsehole in the red shirt? This probably isn't it, but I can make something up: His girlfriend left him for his best friend last night, and he doesn't have anyone else to go out with. So he's out looking for action by himself, and not terribly picky about whether he gets his fix from love or from hate.

(If that's too realistic for you, I can make up something much more ridiculous.)

This is a pretty decent summation of the situation. Red shirt may or may not have his own stuff going on to make him so vitriolic, but thankfully he walked out of the panel and out of our lives

Things got a little intense a little quick, huh?

They should have let Jon go.

Well no, but still, only reason the asshole could call Jon a crybaby, was because of that cheap shot last comic he gave him and that the fight was broken up. Plus Jon bit his tongue. That's like stubbing your toe, in your mouth, with a good chance of blood. Blood ruins beer and spirits stings you mouth. Plenty of reasons for tears.

"This guy in the red shirt just sucker-punched my friend Jon in the back of the head. Maybe it was aggravated assault, but the arsehole deserves prison time." That's all Ken had to say, but his powers of being sensible must be impaired by alcohol. It's a good thing the smeghead is fictional, because a real person like that would seem to have a tendency or even a habit towards dangerous violence that could seriously harm someone.

I can understand it; Jon is still alert and alive, and they were drunk. To be fair, unless this causes slow haemorrhage brain injury leading to death it can be difficult to recognize a criminal assault that's worthy of arrest as being so. I blame the, "boys will be boys," or, "they're just kids," attitudes that get taken to similar things during childhood.

I guess you're right, yeah. Maybe, god forbid, I don't enjoy hurting my characters as much as I used to

Deep breaths, deep breaths, don't go crazy on us now. Immortality is a punishment, because it means the pain never ends. Jon has to survive, to suffer more.

We good?

Considering Arsehole Redshirt committed assault, and Jon hasn't tried to have him barred or called the police, maybe he should quit while he's ahead and stop provoking the person who has legitimate reasons to press charges. Don't think this guy is very bright.

Yeah redshirt's lucky security didn't seem to see what actually happened or he'd be ringing in the new year outside in the cold

It doesn't really come across like they're not sticking up for him to me, more like they're trying to protect him from doing something stupid. Which is just a different (possibly more mature?) way to show they care.

Absolutely fair and reasonable interpretation. If Jon attacked after it was broken up he would be guilty of assault too, unless red shirt hits back.

Oh cool! That's actually what I was going for, but I started getting in my own head about it. Good to know that came across

Jon's still too fresh for the rough boy attitude. Needs a lot of Anna(×Ken)'s rugby sessions. Or boxing ones if you want to fanservice us with hairy chests.

Yeah he's not even a bad boy, let alone a tough guy
