To be fair, Jon has had very little attention this chapter, so Seth’s not completely off base here. That said, Seth is definitely still a bit drunk here, sooo...

Not sure how universal this is, so: “peaky” means looking tired/pale/sick/generally “a bit off”.

Seth has a better relationship to his stepmom than to his biological dad - it's like a reverse fairy tale!

Yep, in his mind she can do no wrong, while his dad can do all wrong

Seth is a good brother and his morals are good. And as for the whole situation with his stepmom, I am impressed by his maturity and yes I do call it maturity because he realizes that his dad was in the wrong not his stepmom. HE was the one who was married and had vows to honour. If anything, one can say that his stepmom was sort of a guilty victim who clearly isn't the kind to deserve to be someone's "other woman".

Too little information to say all that. We don't know why he did it, how it started, or if the former Mrs Walker did or did not like it. On the available information, he might be an embarrassing cad with no excuse who wrecked his marriage by pecking the wrong hole, and perhaps that drove his wife to suicide. On the available information, she also could've come out to him as a lesbian, stayed in the closet, and introduced this other nice girl she knew to her husband while they were still officially married.

Yeah, not quite enough info to know who exactly is in the wrong, but that's more or less the situation as Seth sees it

That's certainly how he sees it!

This makes me entirely too happy that you got this reference. :D

Oh is this one of those yaoi comic where “It’s okay because they’re not blood related brothers” or what? Man, I signed up for Santa saving adventures and I feel like I’ve been double crossed!

They are blood related, they're half-brothers, also no, the comic will never go there, siblings can be affectionate without it being weird

Seth, stop that foolishness and go take a shower. Now, before the colour blind palette clash hurts my eyes even worse, please? Pretty please? Why does he like those colours, is he actually colour blind?

"Green around the gills," I've found to be more internationally understood. Funny how that works even though people don't have gills, and most of us don't turn green while drunk or hung over either.

Funnily enough, Seth isn't colourblind, but Jon is!

I used "peaky" because it feels like a very mum thing to say, but yeah, not as universally recognised

Red-green or blue-yellow? If it's red-green then it came from mama Denise.

Red-green, it did indeed come from Denise! And, genetics being the way they are, she's not colourblind!

Some of Seth's wardrobe makes more sense now: He's making an arse of himself by making fun of Jon's colourblindness, as immature brothers may do.

I think of it more as, unlike many attributes of Seth's appearance, Jon never give him shit for it, because he didn't notice, so Seth didn't realise his clothing choices suck

Potayto, potawto: If you're careless about doing a significant, everyday task well enough to not be embarrassingly and publicly bad at it, that's a thing. If you always wait on your little brother to yell at you for every thing you get wrong before you even consider trying to do it right then that's another thing. Jon's got other things to do besides hovering over Seth failing to make up for his carelessness. Also, Seth failing to be mindful of his appearance has already gotten both him and Gemma mocked for it. The best that can be said about it is that he's probably not vain.

It says something about the human condition that your characterization does so bloody well through collecting flaws in your characters. And again, through the needlessly excessive effort they spend to maintain those flaws when fixing them would actually be less of a struggle in most cases.

Haha oh no, characters clinging to their flaws for dear life is such a good description of 99% of my characters, I've never thought of it that way before

I just realized Seth's hair is darker than him as a kid, was that natural or did he dye his hair darker?
anonymous coward (Guest)
edit delete reply
It could be that. It could also be that child Seth got more sunlight than adult, stock-monkey and bar-worker Seth does, and his hair was more sun-bleached as a child. That would be my first guess actually, because how often does he play outside working in a bar and a shop?

That's actually a really good point, now I'm wondering if that's what happened to my hair too...

If you haven't been getting much sun, (like English people usually don't,) then skin that is more pale can make a relative difference against hair that is actually the same colour as well. You probably know better than me how colour and shade perception is subjectively relative, and dependent on lighting conditions.

Mel Cormac
Yeah lol we have to take vitamin D in the winter because we can't get enough from the sun. I think it's a combination of hair getting darker and face getting lighter

It naturally darkened as he got older. He has a similar hair colour to me, and I was a blonde child, so I made him the same!
