And I don't know quite what's going on with this comment, so at least we're confused together

I'll give it a try:

This scene is set at the coffee shop where Jon works, and at which his friend Ken recently got hired and trained. His coworkers Karen and Chris are apparently experiencing a slow moment at work and chattering with each other.

Their discussion is about their various dating life events, prospects and interests. It begins with Chris noting in the first panel that Karen is acting less cheery than she normally does and jokes about how unusual this. Karen responds by explaining that she has recently broken off of a relationship.

Is that enough for you to follow the rest, dear unspecified guest?

Well, we already knew Chris is a bit of a filthy arse, with full emphasis on both the filthy and the arse parts of that. Way to break the stereotype of gay men having better/fussier hygiene than straight boys.

Nah, this seems about right for someone hoping another person has a breakup (if that is true of Karen). I know that the heart wants what the heart wants independent of what our better sense and manners would suggest (and similarly so for what the loins want) but wishing ill on another person's romantic involvements for selfish reasons is not a praiseworthy thing. Even doing so for non-selfish reasons is dubious at best.

On the other hand, Chris even suggesting it is him being a horrible smeg-head. He opened the conversation with Karen by mocking her lack of cheer, which demanded her counter-jab about the unlikelihood of Danny being interested in Chris. The best ways for him to respond would have been to either accept the advice or to seduce Danny and brag about it.

Do they actually like each other, or are they bitter frenemies?

They say they're friends, but in that weird British way where they're so mean to each other you might not be able to tell

I had to make Karen kind of the bad guy as well as Chris otherwise it would just be WAY too unnecessarily mean

Well eh, perhaps the right way to deal with that would be to pass on the stupidity.

"Oh my Jon, are you back together with Tilly again so soon after breaking up? Chris told me about it. I would've figured we'd have to cover for you being mopey today but you seem cheerful for now at least."
"You mean Chris lied to me? I wonder why he would do such a thing."

I don't know how this was it, but I ship Jon with Karen all of a sudden??? Nothing of their interactions together did it, but somehow her reaction about the idea of him being single did.

Yeah, I'm the weird one here, I know.
